Hello again! I’m back with another review. This time it’s for It’s Kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. It’s young adult fiction, and while it was decent, it was a little bit of a disappointment to me. The main character is Craig Gilner, a teenager living in New York. He has big plans for his life, and to accomplish those, he needs to get into a very prestigious high school. He works crazy hard, gets in, but things don’t turn out quite like he imagines. Craig finds himself checking into a mental hospital with depression instead. There he befriends a host of interesting characters, and finds out a lot about himself in the meantime.
Overall I’d rate this a solid 3 out of 5 stars if asked. It’s interesting and funny and a quick read. I think my problem was my high expectations. I thought it would be along the lines of a good John Green novel and while it was similar, it just wasn’t quite as good as the Green novels I’ve read. I’d add it to your reading list, but don’t bump it to the top. Until next time!!!
