Review: Gone by Michael Grant

We meet again, Bookli friends! Unfortunately my second review will not be as glowing as my first. I just finished Gone by Michael Grant. It’s the first in a young adult series – I believe there are 6 books in the series as of now. The premise was promising – in a little town in California, every person over the age of 14 vanishes in an instant. The kids are all left to fend for themselves but also strange things start happening, including some of the kids developing X-Men like abilities. Sounds great, right? I thought so too….

The first half was pretty good. It was interesting, I enjoyed the characters and the plot twists, and I found myself super curious as to what would happen next. Unfortunately at about the half way mark, I found myself losing interest pretty quickly. It’s a long book – around 550 pages and it really started to drag. I also felt like there was just too much going on, it was as if Grant tried too hard to make the book interesting and unique.

Overall the book was okay. I won’t be continuing with the series but I seem to be in the minority on this – the majority of the reviews are very positive and the books seem to be pretty popular. So don’t take my word for it – check it out for yourself. It’s a pretty quick read so you don’t have much to lose. I’d love to hear your opinion on Gone! Until next time!!!
